Former Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili has become the CEO of Italian oil company Italiana Petroli.
Following the acquisition of 99.82% of Italiana Petroli’s share capital from API Holding, SOCAR announces the appointment of Davitashvili as CEO of the company.
In this role, Davitashvili will lead operations in Italy, focusing on operational continuity, strengthening the company’s position in the national energy market, and overseeing its integration into the wider SOCAR Group.
Davitashvili, who is fluent in Italian, has over 25 years of senior management experience in the public and private sectors.
From 2021 to 2025, he served as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, leading the country’s economic strategy and key infrastructure projects.
He also led Georgia’s participation in the Green Energy Corridor initiative connecting the South Caucasus with EU member states. Since November 2025, he has worked as an advisor to SOCAR President.
In February 2026, Davitashvili was questioned by the Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service regarding an ongoing investigation into an agreement with a large company.
Following the interrogation, Davitashvili said the questions focused on Georgia’s role in gas supply to Europe and whether it could “create risks.” The State Security Service later clarified he was questioned in connection with a specific criminal case, not a meeting.
He left the country the day after the interrogation. The State Security Service confirmed his departure, while Davitashvili said it was a business visit and that he would return later in the week, although no further information about his return has been made public.
