Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Senior Policy Advisor Juba Maruashvili has joined the panel of experts at the European Local Innovation Forum at the invitation of organizers, contributing to discussions on inclusive and sustainable rural development.
In his first interview as part of the forum, Maruashvili emphasized the critical role of local participation in driving effective rural transformation. He emphasized that sustainable development begins at the community level where collaboration among stakeholders can unlock economic and social potential.
“Strong local development begins when small farmers and entrepreneurs join forces through collective action to strengthen access to resources, markets, and their voices,” he said.
Maruashvili also pointed to the growing importance of digital innovation and participatory approaches in modern rural economies, mentioning that inclusive models of development can help reduce disparities and ensure long-term resilience in rural areas.
The European Local Innovation Forum brings together policymakers, experts and practitioners to explore new strategies for community-driven growth, with a particular focus on innovation, sustainability and inclusive economic development.
