A tragic avalanche in Georgia’s mountainous Svaneti region has claimed the life of a tourist, local authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred near the popular trekking route in Mestia, a well-known destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately, but despite their efforts, one tourist was found dead at the scene.
Reportedly, the deceased is a female tourist who was skiing with several other people. The woman’s companions were not injured in the avalanche.
Authorities have issued warnings about heightened avalanche risks in the region due to recent heavy snowfall and fluctuating temperatures. Tourists and locals have been urged to avoid high-risk zones and adhere to safety guidelines.
