Unauthorized construction of cells at the Lamaria Monastery in Ushguli has been halted following a warning from the National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection.
The agency says construction work was being carried out on the territory of the monastery without the required permit. It adds that further decisions regarding the issue will be communicated to the public.
The National Agency for Cultural Heritage Protection reminds that any construction, rehabilitation, or other intervention at cultural heritage sites requires prior approval from the agency and must follow established procedures.
The issue gained public attention after ‘Chai Khana’ reported that unauthorized construction of residential cells was underway near the Lamaria Monastery in Ushguli, raising concerns over possible impacts on the cultural heritage site.
