The National Environment Agency has issued a warning of a strong storm expected over the Black Sea in the coming days, with waves reaching 4–6 points on the Beaufort scale.
The agency says heavy rainfall is also forecast, which could trigger significant rises in river water levels across western Georgia, flash floods in smaller rivers, and landslide or mudflow activity in hilly and mountainous areas.
“Rain will persist in western Georgia until the afternoon of September 21, in some areas accompanied by thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds. A storm of 4–6 points is expected at sea,” the statement said.
The agency emphasized that the anticipated rainfall may lead to “a significant rise in water levels in western Georgian rivers, flash floods in small rivers, and activation of landslide and mudflow processes in mountainous and hilly zones,” noting that the risk level is high.
