Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced a reshuffle in Georgia’s economic leadership, appointing Mariam Kvrivishvili as the new Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, replacing Levan Davitashvili. The latter will now serve as the Prime Minister’s Chief Economic Advisor and Secretary of the Economic Council.
Kobakhidze praised Kvrivishvili’s experience, particularly in tourism and aviation, and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the ministry effectively. “She has already proven herself in key sectors and I believe she will continue to succeed in her new role,” the Prime Minister said.
Kvrivishvili, who has served as Deputy Economy Minister since 2021 and previously headed the National Tourism Administration, thanked the Prime Minister for his trust and emphasized her commitment to continuing and expanding ongoing economic initiatives.
Levan Davitashvili, who had led the ministry since February 2022 and served as Vice Prime Minister since 2021, moves into a strategic role aimed at accelerating investment and economic development. The Prime Minister noted that stepping away from the ministry’s day-to-day operations would allow Davitashvili to focus on long-term economic planning and enhancing Georgia’s investment climate.
“This change will allow us to better coordinate key projects and attract investments,” said Kobakhidze, who also announced plans to strengthen the Economic Council’s functions and composition as part of broader institutional reforms.
In his farewell statement, Davitashvili expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and reflected on years of cooperation with the government, especially during difficult times. He highlighted the importance of fast-tracking ongoing strategic projects and acknowledged the role of Georgian Dream founder Bidzina Ivanishvili in his political career.
“This has been a unique chance for me to serve my country and contribute to its development,” Davitashvili said.
