Mikheil Kavelashvili, Georgian Dream’s President, announced on social media that he met with Pope Leo XIV in the Vatican, and had officially invited him to Georgia during their conversation.
“I once again congratulate His Holiness on his election as the head of the Catholic Church,” Kavelashvili wrote. He noted that the discussion focused on strengthening relations between Georgia and the Holy See, pointing out shared Christian values as a foundation for further cooperation.
“We discussed the existing relations between Georgia and the Holy See and the prospects for strengthening cooperation. A union based on Christian values creates an important basis for close partnership,” he stated.
Kavelashvili also thanked the Pope for his consistent support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. According to him, Pope Leo XIV expressed his willingness to deepen cooperation with Georgia.
“At the end of the meeting, I invited the head of the Catholic Church to Georgia,” Kavelashvili concluded.
