The reconstruction of April 9 Street in Tbilisi has been completed.
The project, managed by the Tbilisi City Hall’s Municipal Infrastructure Development Service, involved replacing underground communications with new cables, installing LED lighting systems, and renewing the asphalt road cover and pavement.
The reconstruction work cost GEL 1.5 million.
April 9 Street is named after the tragedy in the modern Georgian history.
The April 9 tragedy (also known as The massacre of Tbilisi or Tbilisi tragedy) refers to the events in Tbilisi, on April 9, 1989, when an anti-Soviet, pro-independence demonstration was crushed by the Soviet Army, resulting in 21 deaths and hundreds of injuries. April 9 is now remembered as the Day of National Unity (Georgian: ეროვნული ერთიანობის დღე), an annual public holiday.
