The latest Geostat data shows that the number of visitors to museums and museum reserves in Georgia increased by 4.5% in 2025 compared to the previous year, reaching 2.0 million.
On average, each museum in the country received 7,700 visitors.
The highest number of museum visitors was recorded in Tbilisi, with 537,000 visitors, followed by Shida Kartli with 477,000. Adjara ranked third with 262,000 visitors, while Kakheti recorded 229,000.
Geostat reports that 2,930 people were employed in museums and museum reserves across Georgia in 2025, a 3% decrease year-on-year. Of these, 2,105 were permanent full-time employees.
A total of 261 museums and museum reserves operated in Georgia last year, with their distribution by type as follows: memorial museums – 104 (39.8%), historical and local history museums – 74 (28.4%), art museums – 23 (8.8%), museum reserves – 13 (5.0%), literary museums – 2 (0.8%), and other types of museums – 45 (17.2%).
The largest number of museums was located in Tbilisi, which accounted for 59 museums, or 22.6% of the national total. Imereti and Kakheti followed with 40 museums (15.3%) and 37 museums (14.2%), respectively.
The statistical report also shows that the number of exhibitions held in museums increased by 7.1% in 2025 to 1,006. At the same time, the number of museum excursions decreased by 0.9%, totaling 44,600.
