Winter Olympics 2026 set to begin in Italy

The Winter Olympics 2026 will take place from February 6 to 22 in Milan–Cortina, Italy, bringing together the world’s top winter sports athletes for nearly three weeks of competition across alpine skiing, figure skating, biathlon, cross-country skiing, ice hockey, speed skating, snowboard, freestyle skiing, ski jumping, bobsleigh, luge, and ski mountaineering.

Broadcasters around the world are preparing extensive coverage of the Games. In Georgia, the national public broadcaster GPB First Channel will provide comprehensive nationwide coverage, airing live competitions, medal events, and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies throughout the Olympic period.

GPB’s Olympic programming will include major events such as figure skating, alpine skiing, biathlon, speed skating, cross-country skiing, and men’s and women’s ice hockey, ensuring Georgian audiences full access to the Games across its main television channel and dedicated sports platforms.

The Milan–Cortina Games mark Italy’s return as host of the Winter Olympics, with competitions spread across northern Italy and built around a sustainability-focused model that emphasizes existing venues and regional cooperation.

The Winter Olympics will conclude on February 22 with the men’s ice hockey final and the Closing Ceremony, closing one of the most anticipated global sporting events of 2026.
