US Embassy: We Are Concerned about Politicized Attacks on Public Defender’s Office

Ambassador Kelly Degnan met with Public Defender Nino Lomjaria to convey the US Embassy’s support for her critically important work, reports the US Embassy in Georgia.

“The Public Defender’s Office is an essential independent institution for protecting human rights and democratic development in Georgia. We are concerned about politicized attacks on the Public Defender’s Office, which damage this important institution and undermine its effectiveness. We encourage Parliament to engage constructively with the Public Defender’s Office and support its role in protecting the rights of all the people of Georgia,” reads the statement released by the Embassy.
