For the first time, the region has been hit by Western-made rocket launchers, the Russian Ministry of Defense claims.
Ukrainian forces destroyed a bridge over the Seim River in Russia’s Kursk region, Russian state-run TASS news agency reported on Friday, citing a regional representative of a law enforcement agency.
It is said the bridge was important for the logistics of the Russian military and the evacuation of local residents.
Commander of Ukraine’s Air Force Mykola Oleshchuk posted a video on his Telegram channel on Friday evening showing a bridge being hit. In the description accompanying the video, he wrote: “The Air Force is taking an active part in the fighting in the Kursk sector. Ukrainian pilots are conducting precision strikes on enemy strongholds, equipment concentrations, as well as on enemy logistics centers and supply routes.”
The pro-government telegram channel Mash writes that the bridge was blown up by “Hymars” rockets, as a result of which, according to their own information, Glushkov district was cut off from the rest of Russia. Mandatory evacuation was announced there on August 14, although now evacuation is possible only through the river.
Mash also reports that three employees of the People’s Front, a pro-Kremlin organization, were on the bridge at the time of the explosion. Only one of them survived.
Russia claims US missiles are being used in Ukraine’s Kursk campaign.
