U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson, co-chair of the Helsinki Commission, has heavily criticized Georgia’s ruling party, Georgian Dream, alleging it of undermining both Georgian and American interests.
In his statement on X, Wilson condemned the government’s way of handling the Anaklia Port Project, a strategic initiative, accusing the ruling party of attempting to hand control over to China. “Grateful to join this statement on the Ivanishvili regime’s attempt to sell Georgia to the Chinese Communist Party by corruptly giving them control of Anaklia Port,” he wrote.
Wilson criticized the government further by stating “The Georgian Dream party is deeply anti-American and anti-Georgian.” He emphasized that “free and fair elections are the only way forward!”, making it clear that Washington is increasingly concerned over Georgia’s political path.
The remarks come amid growing Western scrutiny of Georgian Dream’s policies, with U.S. and European officials warning against decisions that could compromise the country’s sovereignty and democracy.
