Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Mariam Kvrivishvili, together with Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, has attended the launch event of a new investment project by Hunnewell Cement.
Speaking at the event, Kvrivishvili highlighted the importance of the industrial sector in driving economic growth and strengthening local production.
She said Hunnewell Cement, a long-standing player in Georgia’s construction sector, is entering a new stage of development through expanded production, modern technologies and increased capacity, calling industrial growth a key factor for economic stability and job creation.

The company’s new investment project is valued at USD 70 million and includes the construction of a modern clinker production line and cement grinding facility.
Clinker output will increase by 400,000 tons annually, reaching a total of 2 million tons, while annual cement production is expected to rise to 2.7 million tons, the Ministry says. Both facilities are scheduled to be operational by 2028.
Kvrivishvili said the construction sector remains one of the main drivers of Georgia’s economy, accounting for 8% of GDP in 2025 and generating 7.3 billion GEL in added value.
She added that the project will introduce energy-efficient and modern technologies, improving production quality and competitiveness of Georgian industrial output.
The minister also noted that Hunnewell Cement currently employs up to 1,200 people, adding that the expansion is expected to create additional jobs, including through contractor companies.
Kvrivishvili praised investor confidence in Georgia’s business environment, saying it underpins major industrial initiatives in the country.
