Apart from Tbilisi and other schools around the country, two schools in Zugdidi suspended classes today in response to ongoing protests in Georgia, opposing the withdrawal of Georgia from EU negotiations. The objecting schools are the Georgian-French School and the 5th Public School, where students from higher grades are on strike, saying that the government made constitutional errors and obstructed Georgia’s EU path.

Teachers and parents spoke to Mtavari and clarified that all parents and most teachers heavily supported this decision.

“We will not attend classes unless our goal is achieved. Our fate is being determined now, and we have to stand strong and fight for the EU,” one of the protesting students told a Mtavari Arkhi journalist.

“I’ve taught these students since they were in 7th grade; now they’re in 12th. They know the value of freedom. I support and stand by them. There is no way other than Europe,” declared the history teacher.
