Tbilisi City Hall has reported that the capital has joined a newly established global initiative of World Public Transport Day for the first time on April 17.
The international observance, initiated by the International Association of Public Transport and endorsed by the United Nations, highlights the critical role of public transportation in urban life and sustainable city development.
As part of the campaign, Tbilisi Transport and Urban Development Agency has introduced informational materials across the city’s public transport network. QR-coded stickers have been placed inside municipal buses and metro carriages, allowing passengers to access information about the benefits of public transport.
City officials say the initiative matches with Tbilisi’s broader transport policy which prioritizes the development of municipal transit systems and related infrastructure. Ongoing and planned projects are designed to improve accessibility, efficiency and environmental sustainability.
World Public Transport Day emphasizes the bigger societal value of public transit systems. Beyond mobility, public transport plays a main role in connecting people to education, employment and essential services.
