Daily passenger rail service between Tbilisi and Baku will resume on May 26, ending a six-year suspension.
A protocol of the Bilateral Coordination Council signed in Baku confirms that the new Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway section will be put into full operation, paving the way for the restoration of passenger traffic.
The government administration says the resumption follows agreements reached between the sides during high-level talks in Azerbaijan.
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, met the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in Baku, where the parties discussed strategic partnership, economic cooperation and regional connectivity projects.

They also emphasized the importance of stability and peace for the region’s long-term development and reviewed ongoing joint infrastructure and energy initiatives.
Following the meeting, Georgia and Azerbaijan signed a package of agreements in the energy and transport sectors, including a 20-year intergovernmental agreement on electricity supply and transit conditions, as well as a 20-year extension of the 2003 gas purchase and sale agreement, ensuring continued social gas supply security.
