The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia has arrested six individuals, including police officers, over allegations of exceeding official authority through violence during a detention in Gori.
The investigation found that the defendants allegedly exceeded their official authority through violence during the detention of a citizen, causing substantial harm to the victim’s rights and health.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia said the suspects were arrested on May 28 based on evidence gathered in a short period of time.
The defendants are expected to be formally charged under Article 333, Part 3, Subparagraph “b” of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns abuse of official authority committed with violence and carries a sentence of five to eight years in prison.
The Prosecutor’s Office said it will periodically inform the public about the progress of the investigation due to high public interest.
