Georgian President to the “Russian Law” protesters: You create a referendum, I’ll sign it

President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili has offered the public a referendum. As she said in her address to the opponents of the “Transparency of Foreign Influence” law yesterday, the referendum will be about what the people of Georgia want – the European future or Russian slavery.

“Are you angry today? – Get angry! But let’s get down to business. We have to prepare a real referendum. The energy you have today should be used to collect signatures and bring them to me. I will sign the referendum – do we want a European future or Russian slavery. 84 people cannot decide this. We will decide together. 84 people are nothing compared to those who are here today, the new Georgia, the Georgia of the future.

“The second main thing – the main duty of you who are here, the young people, after you collect the signatures and bring them to me, will be to protect the elections wherever necessary because your mobilization, your half a million votes, as well as our diaspora at least Half a million votes are what will decide the elections on October 26”, said Salome Zurabishvili.

Parliament overturned the President’s veto on the bill “On transparency of foreign influence”. The project, presented by the Georgian Dream faction and vetoed by Salome Zurabishvili, was supported by 84 votes.
