Power and Water Bills to be Subsidized for Socially Vulnerable Families

On the Prime Minister’s initiative, power and water bills are to be subsidized for socially vulnerable families. The Government has issued the relevant decree.

Based on the decree, the state will subsidize power bills for socially vulnerable families with 70,000 rating points and below. The subsidized amount equals the end-consumer rate applicable on the relevant level in December of 2020 minus the consumer rate applicable in July of 2015, with the addition of 3.5 tetri kWh, the difference between the consumer rates applicable in January of 2022 and December of 2020. Said assistance is enjoyed by Tbilisi-registered socially vulnerable families with 70,000 rating points.

In addition, the Government will subsidize the cost of no more than 200 kWh per month with 3.5 tetri kWh for socially vulnerable families registered between January 1, 2022 through December 31, 2022 with rating points between 70,000 and 150,000, besides Tbilisi-registered socially vulnerable families. In the same vein, subsidies will also be provided to socially vulnerable families registered in the unified database of socially vulnerable families between April 1, 2022 through October 31, 2022 with rating points between 70,000 and 150,000 and residing in Tbilisi according to the database. Subsidies do not apply to subscribers enjoying benefits prescribed by the Decree on Compensating Monthly Power Bills Consumed by Subscribers in Mountain Areas.

Further, drinking water bills will be subsidized with no more than 100 GEL for families registered from January of 2022 through December of 2022, with 70,000 rating points and below, and residing in Tbilisi, Rustavi, or Mtskheta.
