Nika Melia Says if He Becomes Mayor of Tbilisi, He’ll Leave Post of Chairman of UNM

Nika Melia, the chairman of the United National Movement and Tbilisi mayoral candidate, stated on TV Pirveli that if he becomes the mayor of the city, he will leave the post of chairman of UNM.

“It is very important that high-ranking officials of the capital government have a firm position and I have to start with myself, that regardless of party positions, after the victory they will leave a high party position and switch entirely to resolving municipal issues. After the victory, it is impossible for me to be the current chairman of the UNM and the mayor of Tbilisi,” says Melia.

He noted that being the chairman of the largest political party and, at the same time, the mayor of the capital is impossible and called on all other officials who will be represented in the City Hall from other parties to make the same decision.
