New School Year to Start with New Subjects

Amendments made to the law On General Education entered into force in Georgia. In 2022-2023, 5-year-old children who will be 6 years old by October 1 will have the right to enter the first grade.

The study of chess will become compulsory from the first grade.

Students of the 10th grade will learn the History of Georgia as a separate subject.

The implementation of Doctor’s Hour will begin, and students will learn about self-defense and safety. Educational topics include hygiene, nutrition, physical activity, gender stereotypes, equality, safety issues such as dealing with strangers, what to do if you get lost, how to identify emotions, what classes as threatening contact, and so on. From 2023, doctor’s hours will be mandatory in all schools.

Further, all schools will be obliged to have a doctor present in the building during school hours.
