Multifunctional Regional Beekeeping Center Event in Tbilisi

On July 29, People In Need organized a Multifunctional Regional Beekeeping Center Event in Tbilisi, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Georgia, Tbilisi City Hall and Union Association Agora.

As part of the event, the parties signed a bilateral agreement between the Czech Development Agency (CzDA) and Union-Association „Agora“ to establish the terms of their partnership and affirm continuous support to Beekeeping Center.

Mr. Jan Chernik, Head of Development Coordination at the Embassy of Czech Republic to Georgia, took part in the ceremony on behalf of the Czech Development Agency and Mr. Tengiz Svanidze signed the document as the representative of Union-Association Agora.
Multifunctional Regional Beekeeping Center was built and equipped by the Czech Development Agency in the framework of the project “Sustainable Development of Beekeeping in Georgia” with a partnership of People in Need Georgia, Association “Agora” and Tbilisi City Hall.

• Strategic vision of the Center is rooted in rural/urban connectivity, sustainable agriculture, and in a vision of Tbilisi as a Green City.
• Key principles of the Center are environmental appreciation, sustainable resource use and inclusive growth.
• Center’s principal vision is to be a central player in Georgia’s growing beekeeping sector.

Czech Development Cooperation in Georgia

Georgia is one of the Czech Republic’s development cooperation partners. Over the past 10 years, the nature of cooperation has evolved from humanitarian assistance through post-war reconstruction to the current scheme that supports stability and successful integration of Georgia into the European Union.

The current Bilateral Development Cooperation Programme (2018-2023) is an integral part of the Czech Republic’s comprehensive engagement in Georgia. It sets out to promote democratic, economic and social reforms and to assist Georgia on its path towards the EU, as well as to strengthen the Czech Republic’s bilateral relations with the country including more intensive cooperation between national and local governments, NGOs and private entities.

The Czech Republic will support efforts aimed at poverty eradication, gender equality and empowerment of women and girls, and it will assist Georgia in combating climate change and managing its impacts.

People In Need in Georgia

People in Need is a Czech non-governmental organization that provides relief aid and development assistance while working to defend human rights and democratic freedom. People in Need has been working in Georgia since 2005 and supports the development of civil society, promotes the socioeconomic integration of vulnerable populations and supports agriculture development.

About Project “Sustainable Development of Beekeeping in Georgia”

The PIN project “Sustainable Development of Beekeeping in Georgia 2018 – 2020” aimed to strengthen the country’s beekeeping sector and support the sustainability of the Multifunctional Regional Beekeeping Center (subsequently referred to as the BageBee Center), constructed under CzDA project with a partnership of People in Need Georgia, Association “Agora” and Tbilisi City Hall.

In 2021, PIN’s focus for the extension is on targeting the organizational capacity of the BageBee Center and the Union-Association Agora team with a gradual transfer from PIN to Union-Association Agora of all organizational responsibilities by the end of the project. The extension includes a significant expansion of PIN’s roles and responsibilities within this timeframe, requiring up-close work with Union Association Agora staff at the BageBee Center.
