Kulumbegov Notes Only Way to Protect Oneself from Omicron is to Get Vaccinated and Wear Facemask

“This variant of the coronavirus has an unprecedentedly high rate of spreading and, in fact, no one can escape the risk of infection,” allergist-immunologist Bidzina Kulumbegov said about Omicron strain.

He pointed out that the means of protection against coronavirus is a facemask, or a person must have been already affected by the virus, or be vaccinated. He added the world has no other restraining measures.

Kulumbegov noted that in the case of Omicron’s dominance, the number of officially reported daily cases in Georgia could exceed 10,000, “which would be a complete disaster for our healthcare system and would lead to a complete collapse,” he added.

“One-and-a-half million people whose immune systems will be unprepared and either do want to get vaccinated or have not been infected with the virus, one percent of these people, about 14-15,000 people will die. This is a sad reality because, given the scale of the Omicron spread, 99 percent of the population will be affected with coronavirus,” Kulumbegov said.
