As part of the traditional initiative dedicated to promoting Italian architecture and design, which is being held for the ninth time this year, the Embassy of Italy in Georgia, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ICE-ITA), will host an event dedicated to Italian Design Day on March 10 in Kutaisi.
The theme of this year’s event, “Inequalities. Design for a Better Life,” echoes the theme of the XXIV International Exhibition of the Milan Triennale, “Inequalities. How to Mend the Fractures of Humanity,” and aims to highlight the importance of design in reducing inequality and improving human well-being.
The celebration of Italian Design Day in Georgia will begin with an event at the Kutaisi International University and will be attended by prominent figures in architecture and design, as well as representatives from scientific and academic circles. The event will be opened by the Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono and the Rector of Kutaisi International University, Giorgi Khubua. The highlight of the event will be the presentation of the first Bachelor’s program in Design at the university’s School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Design, which is being implemented in collaboration with one of the oldest public higher education institutions in the world, the Federico II University of Naples.
The event will continue with a lecture by renowned Italian architect Matteo Vercelloni on “Conscious Design: Poetic Expressions and Suggestions of the Italian Project.” The celebration will conclude with the announcement of the winner of the competition “Italy Meets Georgia: A Fusion of Aesthetics and Innovation” for young, talented designers, organized by the Marangoni Institute in collaboration with the Italian Embassy. This competition, held for the second time this year, will give the winners an opportunity to continue their studies in fashion and design courses at the Marangoni Institute, one of Italy’s most prestigious higher education institutions in these fields.
