The Ministry of Infrastructure of Georgia has announced an international tender to address high-risk road accident areas, commonly known as ‘black spots’, within a 2 km radius along the East-West Highway.
The project‘s goal is to improve road safety and traffic conditions across 27 sections of the highway.
Planned infrastructure upgrades include:
- Installation of metal guardrails;
- Construction of roundabouts and safety islands;
- Elevated pedestrian crossings and sidewalks;
- Renewal of road signs and horizontal markings, among other measures.
The tender is divided into two lots, with experience requirements for companies as follows:
- Lot 1: Minimum of €6.5 million in road works over the past three years;
- Lot 2: Minimum of €3 million in road works over the past three years.
The project is financed through an EU grant, administered by the European Investment Bank (EIB). Companies can submit proposals until December 3, 2025.
While the tender documents provide detailed project descriptions and requirements, they do not specify the exact locations where the infrastructure works will take place.
