Georgia experienced a countrywide power cut once again on Tuesday, marking the third nationwide blackout in recent weeks. Power began to be gradually restored after an outage that lasted almost an hour.
Mtavari reported that passengers were forced to leave metro trains on foot during the large-scale blackout.
A similar nationwide blackout occurred on July 24-25, when electricity was unavailable for several hours across Georgia, including in the Russian-occupied region of Abkhazia.
Georgian State Electro System said that following the systemic failures that occurred on July 24-25, technical work had been carried out at the Enguri hydropower plant. The company said the power system had to operate in an isolated mode and at frequencies different from the nominal level in order to examine certain equipment at the station, which caused temporary power outages across the country.
The company said emergency measures were immediately implemented to restore electricity supply and that power has already been partially restored, with full restoration expected nationwide in the near future.
