Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev says work on the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” has entered its final phase.

Baku reports that the highway is almost 90% complete, and 70% of the railway has already been laid. Aliyev expects the transport hub to be operational in the near future.

The corridor, linking Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, is considered a key strategic project for the Caucasus region.

Azerbaijan says it may further increase cargo turnover along the route. The country sees the corridor as vital for access to its Nakhichevan exclave and as part of broader regional integration after the war.

The US proposal to place the Zangezur Corridor under American oversight has deepened tensions in the South Caucasus and raised concerns in Iran.

Armenia emphasises that it should control the route itself. Yerevan fears that if the route is officially granted ‘corridor’ status, Armenia could indeed lose control of it.
