National Statistics Office of Georgia recently reported that the country granted citizenship to 2,333 individuals in 2025, while 1,426 people had their citizenship revoked.
The majority of new citizens originated from Russia, accounting for 1,393 individuals. Other significant groups included applicants from Germany (296), Ukraine (114), Armenia (104) and the United States (81).
At the same time, citizenship was terminated for 1,426 individuals, primarily due to the acquisition of another country’s nationality, which under Georgian law serves as legal grounds for revocation. Among those who lost Georgian citizenship, 639 obtained Russian citizenship, representing the largest share. Greece ranked second, with 209 individuals acquiring Greek citizenship, followed by Turkey with 121 cases.
