The preliminary data from Geostat revealed that Georgia’s unemployment rate reached 14.3% in the second quarter of 2025, up 0.6 percentage points from the same period last year.
The increase was driven largely by a decline in women’s employment. Unemployment among men remained unchanged at 15.9%, while among women it rose from 10.9% last year to 12.2%.
The number of employed women fell by 20.9 thousand year-on-year, dropping from 626.6 thousand to 605.7 thousand. Both salaried and self-employed women recorded declines: salaried workers decreased by 7.6 thousand to 479 thousand while self-employed women dropped by 13.1 thousand to 126.7 thousand.
Men, by contrast, saw little overall change. The total number of employed men stood at 760.6 thousand, up slightly by 0.6 thousand. Within this, salaried employment decreased by 12.4 thousand but self-employment rose by 16.2 thousand.
