NCDC Head on ‘Delta’ Strain: It’s Recommended that Parents be Vaccinated Twice

“As of today, about 1,700,000 doses of Pfizer have been used. Up to 400,000 doses, which expire on March 31, remain unexploited,” said Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control.

He noted that the country has mobilized 5 million doses of the vaccine. Of this, Pfizer was a little over two million, somewhere around 2,040,000. One million was bought by the state, half a million, the US gave to the country, and then there were two more donations to EU countries.

“The US donation, which first came in July, was fully utilized in August-September. Also fully utilized is that bought on a budget – one million doses,” he said.

Gamkrelidze noted that the rest of the donations came relatively later, adding that he was heartbroken, angry with himself, and disappointed by the people who did not vaccinate, that such a valuable vaccine could save many lives was wasted.

“We have about 1,600,000 doses of Sinopharm and Sinovac, which will last until July 2023,” he added.
