Prominent Georgian director Eldar Shengelaia, who passed away on August 4 at the age of 92, was laid to rest at the Didube Pantheon of Writers and Public Figures.
Shengelaia was buried alongside his parents, legendary actress Nato Vachnadze and filmmaker Nikoloz Shengelaia, and his brother, director Giorgi Shengelaia. His civil funeral service took place earlier in the day at the Sioni Cathedral in Tbilisi where members of the public gathered to pay their respects.
State officials including the President of Georgia, the Prime Minister, the Chairperson of Parliament, the Mayor of Tbilisi, as well as members of the government attended the ceremony.
Honorary Chairman of the Georgian Dream party Bidzina Ivanishvili and his wife, Ekaterine Khvedelidze, also visited the cathedral.
