As part of the traditional initiative dedicated to promoting Italian architecture and design, which was held for the ninth time this year, the Embassy of Italy in Kutaisi, in cooperation with the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ICE-ITA), hosted an event dedicated to Italian Design Day on March 10.
The celebration of Italian Design Day in Georgia began with an event at Kutaisi International University, attended by prominent figures in the fields of architecture and design, as well as representatives from scientific and academic circles. The event was opened by Italian Ambassador Massimiliano D’Antuono and the Rector of Kutaisi International University, Giorgi Khubua.
“This year’s Italian Design Day, themed ‘Inequalities: Design for a Better Life,’ echoes the theme of the XXIV International Exhibition of the Milan Triennale. It is a great opportunity to discuss the importance of design in reducing inequality and its impact on human well-being,” explained Italian Ambassador D’Antuono.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of the first Bachelor’s Program in Design at the School of Architecture, Urban Planning, and Design at Kutaisi International University. The program will be implemented in collaboration with Federico II University of Naples, and upon successful completion, students will receive a double diploma.
“This program, initiated by the Rector of the University of Naples, Matteo Lorito, is the successful result of the collaboration between one of the oldest public higher education institutions and a Georgian university. It will contribute to strengthening ties and knowledge exchange between Italy and Georgia,” said Ambassador D’Antuono.
The event continued with a report by Carla Langella, Associate Professor at the University of Naples Federico II, and a lecture by renowned Italian architect Matteo Vercelloni on “Conscious Design: Poetic Expressions and Suggestions of the Italian Project.”
At the end of the event, the Marangoni Institute, in collaboration with the Italian Embassy, announced the launch of the competition “Italy Meets Georgia: A Fusion of Aesthetics and Innovation” for young talented designers, held for the second time this year. The winners will have the opportunity to continue their studies in fashion and design courses at the Marangoni Institute, one of the best Italian higher education institutions in these fields.
