Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, has been transferred to the Caucasus Medical Center, where he is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment following a serious health complication.
Based on an official statement released by the Georgian Patriarchate, Ilia II was admitted to the clinic due to massive internal bleeding from the stomach. The Patriarch’s condition is described as critical, though stable, and he remains under constant medical supervision in the intensive care unit.
“We ask everyone to pray for His Holiness and Beatitude,” the Patriarchate said, calling on the faithful to offer spiritual support during this difficult time.
Georgia’s Minister of Health, Mikheil Sarjveladze, visited the clinic shortly after the Patriarch’s hospitalization to receive updates from the medical team. Speaking to media, Sarjveladze emphasized the seriousness of the situation, noting the Patriarch’s advanced age and the complexity of his condition.
“Doctors are doing everything they can to ensure the patient’s safety. All necessary measures are being taken to stabilize vital parameters as quickly as possible,” he stated.
Medical representatives at the clinic confirmed that Ilia II has been placed in a critical care and resuscitation unit, where he is receiving continuous monitoring and treatment. While his condition remains fragile, doctors report that it is currently under control.
Several high-ranking government officials and members of the clergy have visited the Caucasus Medical Center throughout the day, underscoring the national concern surrounding the Patriarch’s health.
Ilia II, who has served as the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church since 1977, is one of the most revered and influential figures in the country. His hospitalization has prompted widespread public attention, with messages of support and prayers emerging from across Georgia.
Further updates on his condition are expected as doctors continue treatment.
