Bendeliani: City Hall Was First to Issue a Statement on Landslide Process

The Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Irakli Bendeliani, responded to the landslide risk on Vashlijvari slope, saying that Tbilisi City Hall was the first to issue a statement about the landslide process.

“I have already explained today and I will repeat once again, Tbilisi City Hall was the first to issue a statement on the landslide process and began to take into account the recommendations of specialists. We issued the first statement on March 15 this year.

“Machavariani Street was closed on both sides and preventive measures were taken. Landslide processes are constantly monitored. We are currently in the research-design phase. The process will be completed in the coming days and we will have preliminary data on what we are dealing with and what measures are to be taken.

“All infrastructure projects implemented by Tbilisi City Hall are preceded by relevant research involving the National Environment Agency and the Samkharauli Expertise Bureau,” Bendliani said.

The Deputy Mayor made a comment on the document, which was allegedly obtained exclusively by the media, noting that the document is public and is an integral part of the contract.

“The document refers to the works related to the Machavariani-Gelovani road and not to the landslide process intensified in recent days,” said Bendeliani.
