The de facto leader of Russian-occupied Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, has declared that a discussion with Tbilisi is only possible if Georgia recognizes Abkhazia’s ‘sovereignty’ and signs an agreement that no force will be used.
“Georgia’s political elite cannot accept reality,” Gunba told Russian media. “Abkhazia is an independent state.”
Gunba reinforced that any political talk with Georgia depends on formal recognition of what he called Abkhazia’s statehood, a claim rejected by Georgia and the broader international community which considers the region part of Georgia’s sovereign territory.
