Inspectors from the Mtskheta–Mtianeti regional division of the National Food Agency are carrying out food safety inspections at winter resorts located in Georgia’s high-mountain areas, the Agency has reported.

The inspections cover both major retail chains and small food outlets operating in resort zones. Regulatory oversight focuses on compliance with food sales and placement standards, including proper storage conditions, temperature control, expiry dates and the accuracy of information provided to consumers.

Special attention is given to food labelling requirements. Inspectors are verifying that labels clearly indicate product names, ingredients, including allergens, colourings and additives, net weight, storage and usage instructions, as well as the name and address of the manufacturer or distributor, country of origin, nutritional value, production date and batch number.

The National Food Agency emphasized that food safety checks are conducted nationwide throughout the year, with resort areas receiving heightened attention due to increased seasonal tourism. In 2024, inspectors examined 512 food outlets in the Mtskheta–Mtianeti region. Out of more than 1,200 inspections, 92 violations were identified and legal measures were applied in line with current legislation.
