The French Institute of Georgia has once again launched its highly regarded ‘Cinema Under the Stars’ festival, offering an opportunity to experience French films outdoors in Tbilisi. Running until July 31, the festival features weekly screenings every Thursday at 20:30, held outside the French Embassy on 4 Khazina Street. Entry is free of charge.

“The festival aims to highlight the richness of French cinema and ensure its accessibility to all,” the Institute said in a statement. The program includes a carefully curated selection of both contemporary and classic films, ranging from documentaries and animations to dramas and comedies, catering to diverse audiences.

This year’s edition opened on June 5 at Amirani Cinema with a special screening of ‘Notre-Dame brûle’, a powerful documentary portraying the heroism of those who risked their lives to save the Notre-Dame Cathedral during the 2019 fire. The event was held with support from Cavea.

All future screenings will take place outdoors at the embassy venue. Films will be shown in French, with either Georgian or English subtitles, depending on the selection.

Upcoming highlights of the 2025 program include:

  • L’Odyssée (June 12)
  • L’Orchestre de l’espoir (June 19)
  • Ernest et Célestine: Le voyage en Charabie (June 26)
  • Paris des Géorgiens(July 3)
  • Chronique d’une liaison passagère(July 10)
  • L’Argent de poche(July 17)
  • Je verrai toujours vos visages(July 24)
  • Ama Gloria (July 31)
