Darakhvelidze on Katamadze: He refused voluntary departure, expulsion followed Georgian law

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandre Darakhvelidze stated that Gapar Yilmaz (also known as Temur Katamadze) was expelled from Georgia through forced measures after failing to take the opportunity to leave voluntarily. The expulsion, he emphasized, was carried out in full accordance with Georgian legislation and based on a legally binding court decision.

“We inform the public that Gapar Yilmaz’s expulsion was conducted in compliance with Georgian law and followed a court ruling that had entered into legal force,” Darakhvelidze said at a briefing. “The case was reviewed by eight court instances, all of which upheld the position of the Migration Department. Additionally, the defense requested interim measures from the European Court of Human Rights, which were denied.”

Darakhvelidze claimed that since Yilmaz did not leave the country voluntarily, authorities proceeded with forced removal as stipulated by law.

Nino Kakulia, the wife of detained activist Temur Katamadze, says her husband has been transferred to Turkey under deceptive circumstances. Speaking to Interpressnews, Kakulia claimed that the transfer did not follow standard procedures and was carried out in a misleading manner.
