The Georgian Dream-appointed president, Mikheil Kavelashvili, whose legitimacy is not recognized by the 5th President Salome Zurabishvili, opposition parties, a significant part of society, or non-governmental organizations, and is questioned by numerous international partners, has pardoned 613 convicted persons.
Information about this was published on Kavelashvili’s Facebook page. The official website of the presidential administration is currently down, as the information on it “is being updated.”
The pardon took place in connection with the Epiphany holiday, which is based on the “principle of humanism”.
“Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili pardoned 613 convicted persons in connection with the Epiphany holiday.
“The use of the exclusive powers granted to him by the Constitution for the President of Georgia is based on the principle of humanism and state interest.
“With a demonstrated humane attitude, the pardoned persons were given the opportunity to return to their families and become full-fledged members of society again,” the Facebook post reads.
