Tamar Gabunia, the Deputy Minister of Health, announced that only people over the age of 55 will be vaccinated with the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency, as well as the World Health Organization, has released additional information on possible side effects associated with AstraZeneca.

Gabunia noted that a possible link between the thrombotic complication and AstraZeneca is rare, at around four in a million, this is British data, but it is still considered necessary to focus on this type of complication. Gabunia says several countries have decided to suspend the use of AstraZeneca in certain age groups as part of a vaccination program.

“Today, the Board of Experts had a discussion with the staff of the Ministry and the Center for Disease Control and recommended the continuation of vaccination with AstraZeneca for the age group above 55, whether it is a high-risk group or any other group due to the presence of chronic disease or its affiliations, which increases its risk on a professional basis, in this case, I mean essential service providers, healthcare professionals. AstraZeneca vaccination program will continue in the age group over 55, as it is still going on, further expansion by age group will not happen with AstraZeneca at this stage,” Gabunia said.
