Georgi Chighladze, who was arrested in connection with the recent incident at the Agarani Estate hotel in Telavi, has been released after the Telavi District Court imposed GEL 5,000 bail as a preventive measure.
The ruling was delivered by Judge Tamar Kapanadze.
Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty’s Georgian Service reports that Chighladze told the court he regretted what had happened.
“I regret this crime… It was never my intention for it to end this way… That’s what I want to say,” he said during the hearing.
The incident took place several days ago at the Agarani Estate hotel in Telavi. Reportedly, Russian-speaking women allegedly insulted wedding guests from a hotel balcony and poured various liquids on them. A wedding guest then went to the women’s room to speak with them, after which a physical altercation broke out.
The foreign nationals later published a video on social media, claiming they had been attacked by a Georgian man because they were speaking Russian.
Law enforcement authorities arrested Chighladze following the incident. He has been charged under Article 120 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which concerns the intentional infliction of minor bodily injury. The offense is punishable by up to three years in prison.
