The full rehabilitation of Tbilisi’s Rustaveli Avenue will begin on July 23 and is expected to last four months, during which all vehicle traffic will be restricted on the avenue and part of Merab Kostava Street, Tbilisi City Hall said.
Traffic restrictions will apply to the section from Tamar Chovelidze Street to Freedom Square. Movement will also be fully prohibited on Vaso Abashidze Street, while Aleksandre Griboedov Street will temporarily become two-way between Vano Sarajishvili Street and the intersection with Aleksandre Chavchavadze Street.
City Hall said alternative routes will be available for private vehicles during the rehabilitation period.
Vehicles traveling from Petre Melikishvili Avenue toward Freedom Square will be redirected through Ivane Tarkhnishvili, Vasil Barnovi, Kote Makashvili, Polikarpe Kakabadze, Daniel Chonkadze, Amagleba, Lado Asatiani and Shalva Dadiani streets.
Vehicles moving from Nikoloz Baratashvili Street toward Merab Kostava Street will use Revaz Tabukashvili and Sandro Inashvili streets, First Republic Square, Giorgi Akhvlediani and Niko Nikoladze streets.
Traffic from Mikheil Javakhishvili Street toward Rustaveli Avenue will be diverted via Revaz Tabukashvili, Revaz Lagidze, Marie Brosse streets and Zviad Gamsakhurdia Embankment.
Public transport routes will also be temporarily adjusted during the works.
City Hall said bus routes N301, 305, 306, 308, 309, 310, 314, 326, 331, 337, 342, 344, 345, 352, 358, and 397, as well as minibus routes N472, 532, 540 and 541, will operate through Heroes’ Square and the right bank of the Mtkvari River to connect with Baratashvili Street.
Several other routes will also change. Bus routes N359 and N391 will run via Heroes’ Square and Galaktion Tabidze Bridge, while bus N378 will no longer serve Rustaveli Metro Station and will instead operate toward Heroes’ Square.
Minibus routes N408, N420 and N457 will also follow modified routes during the rehabilitation period.
