The National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat) reported that 53 professional theaters operated in the country in 2025.
The majority – 42 theaters – were drama, musical comedy and miniature theaters. Seven operated in the puppet sector, while opera and ballet theaters, as well as theaters for children and teenagers, accounted for two each.
Most theaters were concentrated in Tbilisi, accounting for 54.7% of the total. Imereti had 13.2%, while the remaining 32.1% were distributed across other regions.
A total of 4,407 theater events were held in 2025, including 130 outside the host cities and 153 performances abroad.
The number of performances fell by 9.8% compared to the previous year, totaling 4,073. More than half – 70.4% – were held in Tbilisi (2,869 performances). In the regions, Imereti hosted 417 performances, the Autonomous Republic of Adjara 190, Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti 152, and Samtskhe-Javakheti 85.
Audience attendance also declined by 2.5% to 620,300 people. Tbilisi accounted for 66.3% of total attendance (411,400), followed by Imereti with 59,600 and Adjara with 56,100.
Geostat said professional theaters employed 4,391 people in 2025, including 3,081 permanent staff. Employment increased by 80 people compared to 2024.
