The Minister of Economy of Georgia, Natia Turnava, made a statement regarding Namakhvani HPP and noted that the mediation process will start in the coming days, led by the European Union.
“We have permanent contact with such large investors. We often contact the supervisor of Enka. I personally have frequent contact with them. One of the main topics of conversation is the mediation process led by the European Union, which will begin in the coming days. The investor is fully prepared to help find a compromise, especially since they have already made a significant compromise, by which I mean postponing the construction of the dam, creating an additional fund for the development of the valley, revealing all the research,” Turnava said.
The Energy Union is sending a mediator, Dirk Buschle, Chairman of the Center for Dispute Resolution and Negotiation, to negotiate issues concerning Namakhvani HPP.
“We look forward to working with civil society, experts, and the government to find a solution. An energy union is not just a union of governments and project developers,” Buschle noted.
