The dengue virus (DENV) has been detected in Georgia, announced Ivane Chkhaidze, Medical Director of the Iashvili Central Children’s Hospital.
Speaking about the situation, Chkhaidze confirmed that one case of the mosquito-borne virus was identified in the country last week. He did not provide further details regarding the infected individual or the circumstances of the case.
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted primarily through the bite of infected mosquitoes. Its incubation period typically ranges from five to seven days, although in its classic form it can extend up to 15 days. Common symptoms include high fever, often reaching 39–41°C, severe chills, intense headaches, muscle pain, joint pain, and general weakness.
Commenting on concerns about the Ebola virus, Chkhaidze stated that no cases of Ebola have been recorded in Georgia and emphasized that there is currently no risk of the disease spreading within the country.
Health authorities continue to monitor the epidemiological situation and urge the public to seek medical attention if symptoms associated with dengue fever develop following travel to affected regions.
