Representatives of the US Department of State are holding meetings with opposition figures in Georgia, including Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of the opposition alliance Strong Georgia – Lelo, Levan Tsutskiridze, Chair of Freedom Square, and Ana Dolidze, leader of the For the People party.
The US delegation visiting Georgia includes Charles Yockey, Special Assistant and representative of the Office of the Secretary of State, and Peter Andreoli, a representative of the US State Department’s Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs.
Ahead of the meeting, Grigol Gegelia, Foreign Secretary of Strong Georgia – Lelo, stated that the visit indicates continued US interest in developments in Georgia.
“This is the third visit within a very short period of time. It is an important signal that Trump has not gone anywhere; on the contrary, the United States is becoming increasingly interested in ensuring political stability in Georgia and in better protecting the national interests of both Georgia and the United States. This third visit to Georgia confirms that,” Gegelia said.
Meetings with other opposition parties are also planned as part of the delegation’s visit.
