US House bill seeks report on Russian and Chinese intelligence assets in Georgia

A bill has been introduced in the United States House of Representatives calling for the preparation of a report on Russian and Chinese intelligence assets operating in Georgia.

According to information published on the official website of the US Congress, the proposed legislation seeks to “request a report on Russian and Chinese intelligence assets in Georgia and for other purposes.”

If adopted, the bill would require relevant US authorities to assess and present findings on the scope, structure, and activities of Russian and Chinese intelligence networks in Georgia, as well as their potential impact on the country’s security, democratic institutions, and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Further details regarding the timeline for the report and the specific agencies responsible for compiling it have not yet been made public.

The introduction of the legislation comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions in the region and growing scrutiny in Washington over foreign influence activities in Eastern Europe and the South Caucasus.

The bill will now proceed through the legislative process in the House of Representatives.
