A juvenile has been sentenced to 14 years and six months in prison after the Tbilisi City Court found the defendant guilty of torture, organizing group violence, and participating in violent acts motivated by intolerance, the Prosecutor’s Office says. However, under Georgia’s Juvenile Justice Code, the sentence was reduced by one-third. As a result, the juvenile was sentenced to nine years and eight months in prison.
The Prosecutor’s Office said evidence examined during the trial showed the defendant, who allegedly adhered to a “fascist-Nazi” ideology, organized acts of violence and torture against people whose lifestyle the group considered unacceptable, including minors. Prosecutors say the victims were subjected to both physical and psychological abuse.
The court found the defendant guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code of Georgia, including torture committed by an organized group in two episodes, torture of a minor by an organized group, and organizing and participating in group violence accompanied by the use of force.
