Tbilisi Transport Company has extended the deadline for submitting bids for the GEL 416 million tram construction tender, moving it from December 22, 2025, to February 16, 2026. The decision follows requests from interested companies seeking additional clarification on the project’s technical specifications.
The tram line will be implemented using the Design-Build (DB) method and is intended to significantly improve passenger mobility in the capital. The planned route will connect the 3rd and 4th microdistricts of Didi Digomi with the Didube metro station, providing a new high-capacity public transport corridor.
The tender documentation state that each tram train will be able to carry at least 300 passengers and the line will feature 11 stops along its route. Contractors selected for the project will have a total of 36 months to complete the work, including 24 months dedicated specifically to construction.
The scope of the project includes extensive design and preparatory works, such as topographic and geodetic surveys, soil and ground studies, passenger flow analysis, engineering calculations and feasibility assessments. Infrastructure works will cover the construction of tram tracks, a contact line, a tram depot, administrative and technical service buildings, laundry facilities and security systems. In addition, a comprehensive tram control system will be introduced, integrating signaling, automation, security and communication networks.
Eligibility criteria require participating companies to have completed at least two tram line projects since 2010, ensuring relevant experience in similar large-scale urban transport developments.
The tender does not include the procurement of tram vehicles. A separate tender for the purchase of 11 tram units will be announced at a later stage.
